We have two new catalogues!

At the final exhibition of the international project Heroes We Love and among the exhibition Slovenia and Non-Aligned Pop we released two final publications, now available on the shelves of our museum store!

Within the project Heroes We Love the Maribor Art Gallery along with seven partners from the Middle and South-East Europe researched the connection between ideologies, identity and socialistic art. The texts for publishing were edited by Simona Vidmar, Maribor Art Gallery curator and head of the project. There were also 15 writers who contributed to the project, including Dr. Miško Šuvaković, art historian and critic; Dr. Miklavž Komelj, art historian; Dr. Maja Čirič, curator and art critic; Owen Heatherly, architectural historian; Dr. Nikolai Vukov, anthropologist; Romeo Kodra, culturologist; Lana Lorenčič and Tihana Pupovac, art historians; Adela Demetja, historian and others.

The catalogue from the exhibition Slovenia and Non-Aligned Pop was created as a PhD thesis by Dr. Petja Grafenauer. Various colleagues from galleries around Slovenia contributed, all the way from the Slovenian coast to Prekmurje, creating a range of artists, speaking of the rich Slovenian creative image. We also reached out to artists who have generously decided to share their pieces of art and memories of the past times.

The thorough research of Petja Grafenauer is complemented by a first word text from Breda Kolar Sluga, an interview, prepared by the Maribor Art Gallery curator Jure Kirbiš along with Aleksander Bassin and the text from Tomaž Brejc.

The authors of the exhibition, Petja Grafenauer and Vasja Cenčič, divided the artwork pieces into 9 different sections: THE AMENITIES, FASHION AND EROTICISM, DEATH, ECOLOGY, various movements in a section called EXPANDED CONSCIOUSNESS, SUBJECT and REALISTIC SOCIALISM.

The texts were contributed by Matej Bor, Marko Brecelj, Tomaž Brejc, Vasja Cenčič, Biserka Debeljak, Tone Fornezzi Tof, Petja Grafenauer, Dušan Jovanović, Jure Kirbiš, Breda Kolar Sluga, Iztok Lipužič, Miha Mazzini, Frane Miličinski – Ježek, Bogdan Novak, Skupina 443, Tomaž Šalamun, Rudi Šeligo, Ivan Volarič Feo, Franci Zagoričnik and Ifigenija Zagoričnik Simonović.
