Maribor Art gallery is joing 54. Festival Borštnikovo srečanje this year with two programs: the exhibition The Space within the Space / Scenography in Slovenia before1991 and the play SYNTAPIENS::IZ/Reka, Reka based on the play by Dane Zajc, Children of the River, directed by Dragan Živadinov, which will be performed twice on October 25 in the UGM Great Hall. Kindly invited!

SYNTAPIENS::IZ/Reka, Reka/ is a theatre event dedicated exclusively to the impressive artistic opus of Iva Zupančič (also a Borštnik Ring laureate), who in 1962 played the role of Reka in the baptismal staging of Children of the River by the playwright and poet Dane Zajc, directed by Taras Kermauner. The project is a part of the universe of the 50-year theatre performance Noordung::1995–2045 which researches the destiny of theatre when art, after Modernism in the 20th century, distanced itself from the mimetic, figurative, narrative and shifted towards abstraction.

Dragan Živadinov studied at the UL AGRFT and in the 1980s (co)-founded the most radical experimental projects in Slovenia (Scipion Nasice Sisters Theatre, Red Pilot, Cosmokinetic Cabinet Noordung). He was also a co-founder of the artistic movement Neue Slowenische Kunst. He is involved with Internet theatre and collaborates with the Centre for Performing Arts Research Delak through his historical-aesthetic contributions. He devised the Retrogarde theatre method, advocating the principles of the 20th-century historical artistic avant-gardes as well as the constructive and prophetic power of theatre art.
