The joint artistic practice of Gal Šnajder and Hana Jelovšek explores a broader perspective on graphic design, encompassing form, content, production, and distribution of information. They understand the creative process as one of constant experimentation, which becomes a way of managing the uncertainty that is often present in artistic production.
"Although we work with letters, sentences, and blocks of text every day, we rarely stop at a single letter. We always view it through the prism of a sentence, a passage, a page in a book. It never really stands alone. With this in mind, we devoted ourselves to each letter individually. We chose the shapes of the letters with a kind of naivety, perhaps even more so with a natural simplicity. Each letter of the alphabet stands in various letter types, extended, classic, cursive, obscure, and gifted, but always closest to us, taken out of any context, with sincerity. Half of the letters came from New Haven, Connecticut, and half from Tallinn. They were mixed in Maribor."
Both authors are currently pursuing an MA in graphic design: Hana Jelovšek at the YALE School of Art in New Haven, USA, and Gal Šnajder at the Estonian Academy of Arts in Tallinn. Their practices come together in Maribor.
