Wisdom Hours / Three Women Painters in Maribor

In this introduction, we will first introduce you to watercolour, a common painting technique used by the Šantel women painters who lived in Maribor between 1920-34. Before the invention of synthetic pigments, watercolour paints were made using natural dyes, such as turmeric and charcoal. We will also try out the glaze layers with coffee. While painting in a relaxed way, we will introduce you to the life and work of our mother, Augusta, and our sisters Augusta Jr. and Henrika Šantel. Afterwards, we will visit the exhibition of their works in the UGM Kabinet.
