Cityscapes – Guided Tour of the Spekter Exhibition
UGM, Strossmayerjeva ulica 6
Wednesday, 18 March 2026, 10:30 − 11:30
Born in Maribor, the poet, writer and translator Kajetan Kovič wrote in his poem Moje mesto (My City):
“There is still the river with its sturdy bridges
and hidden green paths
behind half-open walls
and so many loving eyes.”
You are warmly invited to a calm and nostalgically tinged guided tour of the exhibition Spekter, where we will focus on cityscapes and artistic depictions of cities. Through conversation and attentive observation, we will reflect on how artists portray images of cities, squares, hidden streets and houses. What can a depicted city reveal about the time in which the artwork was created? How do these views reflect the rhythm of everyday life and the broader social atmosphere?
While looking at the artworks, we will also consider how colour, light and composition shape our perception of an urban landscape. Is the city presented as lively, familiar, distant or perhaps solitary?
The tour is designed as a relaxed social gathering, allowing time for conversation, the sharing of impressions, and personal experiences. Everyone who enjoys observing art and seeking meaning, emotions, and memories within it is warmly invited. No prior knowledge of art or art history is required to participate. The program is based on relaxed socializing and openness to new experiences.
