We're Going On Our Own with UGM
Thursday, 9 November 2023, 17:00
Meeting point: Maribor Regional Museum, Grajska street 2
End point: UGM Kabinet, Strossmayerjeva street 6

The Maribor Regional Museum celebrates 120 years this year! As one of the six cultural institutions in Maribor that sprung their roots in the Regional Museum Maribor, we are joining in the celebrations by participating in an event from the We're Going On Our Own series. The Maribor University Library, the Maribor Regional Archives, the Maribor Museum of National Liberation, the Maribor Synagogue and the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, Maribor Regional Unit, are also participating in the event series.

On Thursday, 9 November, at 17:00, we will gather at the Maribor Regional Museum. During a thematic guided tour, museum consultant Dr. Valentina Bevc Varl will present the paintings of Anton Nowak (1865-1932). She will present the interesting life story of the Maribor-born painter, co-founder of the Vienna Secession, and the path of his paintings to the collection of the Maribor Regional Museum and later to the UGM Collection.

We will then walk together to the UGM Kabinet at Strossmayerjeva 6, where we will see the exhibition Maribor Impressions, From the Graphic Maps of the Maribor Art Gallery and the Maribor Regional Museum. The exhibition will highlight a small painting by the impressionist Ivan Grohar, Chapel (in Crngrob), 1907, and its journey from private owners, through the Grohar Club, to the Maribor Regional Museum and the UGM Collection.
