The Maribor Art Gallery is often an ambassador of Slovenian art abroad, from the visit of Maribor artists to the Eltham Palace in Greenwich in 1962, to the presentation of the artist Jaša in the Slovenian pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2015. UGM took Slovenian artists to China the furthest away so far. In 2016, Slovenians Uršula Berlot, Samuel Grajfoner, Marjan Gumilar and Zmago Lenárdič presented themselves at the Today Art Museum in Beijing together with Chinese painters who had previously visited UGM. The exhibition was designed by Breda Kolar Sluga, director of UGM, together with the renowned Chinese curator Peng Feng.
