Weekly attraction / Jackson Pollock in UGM

In 1961, 7 years after the founding of the gallery, the Maribor Art Gallery hosted the exhibition Contemporary American Art. Part of the exhibition were also canvases by the famous American painter Jackson Pollock. Traveling exhibitions of American art were organized at that time by the U.S. State Department as a form of cultural propaganda. The artistic movement of abstract expressionism - the leading representative was Pollock - was supposed to represent the free-thinking of the West, compared to the socialist realism of the Soviet Union.
