UGM (Strossmayerjeva ulica 6)
Spekter. 70 Years of the UGM Collection

The temporary display of UGM Collection was created by the designer David Tavčar, who combed through the museum’s collection to select over 250 works of art featured in the exhibition, some iconic, some lesser known and others shown to the public for the very first time, and arranged them across seven rooms and two halls into a singular, vibrant experience. The major exhibition at the UGM | Maribor Art Gallery opens up a spectrum of views, positions, and forms, both within the artworks from the UGM Collection and in the art of exhibition-making as such.

UGM Kabinet (Strossmayerjeva ulica 6)
Christoph Grill / Depth of Field

Christoph Grill’s photographic work is a result of a change of location. What can be seen in the world is incommensurable, a never-ending project. On his exploratory journeys, he cultivates the openness of an explorer, allowing himself to be surprised by what he finds without any specific guidelines. This is, on the one hand, a conceptual exploration of what already presents itself as an image, and, on the other, of what landscapes are charged with. The focus here is primarily on the traces of political ideologies in such disturbed landscapes, the consequences of the violent interventions with which they are visibly or invisibly contaminated, and where people continue to try to live.

UGM Šop (Strossmayerjeva ulica 6)
Špela Ambrož / Violets

UGM Šop presents Špela Ambrož with an exhibition of prints for sale from her Violets series. In this series, Ambrož draws on scenes of football matches, specifically those played in Maribor. She uses recordings of these sporting events as her point of departure, capturing frames that are compositionally, chromatically, and narratively compelling, depicting moments of fans’ fervour and (un)sportsmanlike conduct of players. Thus, she reflects on the football match as an aesthetic experience worthy of artistic exploration. The prints were created using the solvent transfer technique, which introduces unpredictability and a subtle sense of humour with each impression. The exhibition is an opportunity for the audience to discover playful yet thoughtful worlds in each print and to introduce contemporary printmaking into their homes.
