reCITYing / Rebuilding the City
series of presentations of architectural and community projects
Wednesday, 26 March 2025, 18:00-20:00
Judgement Tower, Pristan 8, Maribor
A series of short lectures by prominent Slovenian architects and urbanists will reveal well-known and lesser-known projects for the reactivation of urban architectures, urban districts and other vacant spaces. Architectural heritage, medieval urban fabric, empty building pits and abandoned quarries can be the scenes of success stories of rebuilding community life and returning spaces to the city and its inhabitants.
We invite you to a unique opportunity to meet the architects behind the successful renovations of the once-closed Judgement Tower (Sodni stolp) and the just recently renovated Lent; to learn about the planned new life of the nearby Žički Dvor; to enter the planned renovation of a decades-abandoned granary in Ptuj; and to discover how visual constitutionalists and the next generation of architects are thinking about abandoned building sites and quarries.
Empty spaces of architectural and natural heritage with thousands of years of sediment and many transformations are the building blocks of the rebuilding of the city. In Maribor and beyond, major shifts are taking place in this field. Let's get to know them together with their creators!
The lectures will be held in English.
