Presentation of the ReCITYing project at the Beta – Architecture Biennial in Timișoara

Alongside its participation in the main exhibition of the Beta Architecture Biennial in Timișoara, UGM will contribute to the biennial’s discursive programme with a presentation of the ReCITYing project. The presentation will introduce the approaches developed by project partners in Maribor, Barcelona, Genoa, Hanover and Montpellier, focusing on temporary use and the reactivation of underused spaces. 

Particular attention will be given to UGM’s activities at Račji dvor, a historic complex on the outskirts of Maribor, where architects, artists, students, project partners, and local residents explored new ways to activate architectural heritage and bring it into public life. The presentation will highlight the interventions Where Are You Hiding, Račji dvor? by Lena Uranjek and Ishak Hadžibajrić, and Palette of Activities 638 497/3 by Maša Perc and Žiga Miholič, selected through an international open call and realised in autumn 2025.

The presentation gains particular relevance from the biennial’s main venue, the former Ion Mincu Technical School in Timișoara. Bringing together the examples of Maribor and Timișoara will open a discussion on how temporary artistic and architectural interventions can help envision the long-term future of abandoned and underused urban spaces.

UGM’s collaboration with Beta also extends to the biennial’s main exhibition, where Water at Work, an architectural installation by Timișoara-based architect Loredana Gaiță, is presented as part of the ReCITYing project.

Beta – Timișoara Architecture Biennial is organised by the Timiș branch of the Romanian Order of Architects and funded by the Municipality of Timișoara through the Project Centre, with additional support from the Romanian Order of Architects and A.F.C.N. Beta is a member of LINA, the European architecture platform supported by the European Union through the Creative Europe programme. This year’s edition takes place within a partnership between the Municipality of Timișoara and the Miltonia Association.
