Educational visit to Munich, Germany
28 October–30 October 2024

From 28 to 30 October 2024, we took part in an Erasmus+ educational visit to institutions in Munich, where we job shadowed museum professionals in the field of education. We took part in workshops for teenagers and guided tours in simplified language, guided tours with restorers and other public programmes at the Pinakothek der Moderne, Alte Pinakothek, Museum Brandhorst, Kunsthalle München and Haus der Kunst. In addition, we visited museums and exhibitions to follow contemporary approaches to conceptualising the exhibition programme, observed exhibition and support facilities, and learned about new trends in audience development, all in anticipation of the new gallery space on Rotovž Square.

Educational visit to Antwerpen, Belgium
25 March–29 March 2024

From 25 to 29 March 2024, the Erasmus+ KA1 programme hosted Simona Vidmar, Brigita Strnad, Jure Kirbiš, Živa Kleindienst and Tatjana Frangež in Antwerp. The educational visit on Adult Education in the context of the Museum of modern and contemporary art was carried out at the KMSKA Museum in Flanders. We were welcomed by Sophie and Dennise, who are involved in the preparation and implementation of public engagement programmes. The museum was particularly inspiring for us, who are preparing to work in the new premises, having gone through an 11-year renovation, preparing new installations and a rich set of accompanying programmes, which were relaunched last year. Inside the building, which blends late 19th-century and modern architecture, we also got a glimpse behind the scenes: the depositories, the libraries and the dining room, where around 100 staff meet. Dennise presented us with an exhibition of works from their extensive collection, which is of a very high quality and innovative, enriched with interpretative material: texts for the different visitor structures, ICT material (3D simulation of Rubens' studio, audio-video material of interpretations of the works of art by individuals from different target groups (children, adolescents, elderly, professionals, etc.), The Ten (ten installations relating to the themes included in the exhibition), etc. The temporary exhibition also provided didactic material for independent visits by younger people. We followed a variety of guided tours for adults and children. We had the opportunity to observe the synergy created through art during an intergenerational workshop between the elderly from the retirement home and the young people from the youth organisation. On Thursday 28 March, from 20:00-22:00, we followed the programme when the museum has extended opening hours (concert, guided tours). We also presented the UGM and our educational programmes to the staff of the Education Department. We are very proud that they were able to find in our presentation ideas to complement their work. In addition to KMSKE, we were welcomed at two other museums. At FOMU we attended the opening event of the exhibition RE/SISTERS - A Lens on Gender and Ecology. At M HKA we were introduced to the Museum of Contemporary Art and the current exhibition Piet, which also designs and implements educational programmes for different target groups.

Educational visit to Berlin
6 October–12 October 2022

We made an educational visit to the Berlinische Galerie, where we were welcomed by Katrin-Marie Kaptan, Head of the Education Department. We followed the events of the Open Day. We visited the BG Collection exhibition and the Magyar Modern exhibition of Hungarian art. We continued our visit at Haus Bastian, the Centre for Cultural Education on Museum Island. We met with our colleagues Patrick Presch and Philine Sollmann, who gave us an overview of the institution, its programmes and various educational materials. Given that the UGM also holds a collection of Slovenian video, it was valuable for us to meet colleagues from the Julia Stoschek Collection - an institution that holds an important collection of video art. We learned about the collection and exhibition policy, as well as the ways of reaching out to the public. We also presented UGM and our educational programmes to our partners.  We visited other inspiring spaces in Berlin, both old and contemporary art (Neue Nationalgalerie, Kindl, König Galerie, art in public space...).
