Cooking with Love: The Whole Is Greater Than the Individual Ingredient
UGM Bazen, Strossmayerjeva ulica 6
Tuesday, 10 March, 12 May and 9 June 2026, 18:00
Instead of separating household chores from intellectual and creative work, we opt for their unexpected symbiosis. Although it is clear that a book is not written by washing dishes, we seek precisely these connections between care and maintenance, theoretical reflection, and creative processes. Can such events address the theoretical and practical intertwinings of life and art in a different way? For this very reason, all participants prepare dinner together. Through everyone’s contribution, dinner becomes a tool that enables a redistribution of power and emerges from the process of acquiring knowledge and sharing experiences.
In 2026, we ask how power relations are formed, what and how we eat and think, and how questions of class, identity, geography, nationality, and gender simmer in the pot of food/cultural politics. In these events, the preparation of food is the framework within which we operate and through which we connect with all participants.
Tuesday, March 10, 18:00
We begin with texts by Rebecca May Johnson (Small Fires: An Epic in the Kitchen) and Maren Lübbke-Tidow (How Does Art Act in Crisis: Togetherness and Friendship as Artistic Concept), who reflect on community from different perspectives. The starting point will be basic – soup-based, artistic, and theoretical.
Tuesday, May 12, 18:00
The second dinner will be conceived together with the artistic tandem PlateauResidue, the fictional identity of Aljaž Celarc and Eva Pavlič Seifert, which engages with landscape ecology and new media while seeking new ways of raising public awareness.
Tuesday, June 9, 18:00
At UGM, we conclude the gatherings with texts by Luce Irigaray (Sharing the World) and Sara Ahmed (Orientations: Toward a Queer Phenomenology), reflecting on community through otherness and difference. We will finish with a collective dessert.
Registration: Due to the limited number of participants, please confirm your attendance by March 9, 2026, at info@nagib.si or pr@nagib.si

Irena Borić is an art historian working as an independent curator, critic, and editor. She often works in temporary collectives. She is a member of the Croatian section of AICA. She lives and works in Maribor.
Barbara Kukovec works as an actress, performer, and author. She strives to intertwine the field of art with everyday “non-artistic” contexts and explores possibilities for establishing connections between seemingly incompatible worlds. She lives and works between Maribor, Ljubljana, and the Haloze region.
Cooking with Love: The Whole Is Greater than a Single Ingredient is carried out within the framework of the NAGIB k TEORIJI program, which for eight years has been opening space for theorization, historicization, and reflection on contemporary dance and beyond, for dialogue, collective reading, and learning. Over the past two years, this space has increasingly intersected with other artistic, cultural, and scientific fields.
