Artwork / author / music / movie that has been your favorite lately?
Recently, I have been fascinated by viewing the original works of Albrecht Dürer, visiting the exhibition of Christian Dior, the music and concert of Benjamin Clementin, and movies Youth Paolo Sorrentino and Lobster Yorgos Lanthimos.
What do you fear when you create?
I am most afraid of destroying work materials because they are hard to come by and because I never have reserves.
What creation tool would I not be able to live without?
Scissors.
What do you consider to be the biggest success of your artistic career so far?
Last year’s ranking of my hat among the best-arrived hats from around the world for the London Hat Week Exhibition and selection for the Press Preview.
How do you view the positive or negative critique of your creation?
I look at both with reserve but also with interest. Namely, foreign opinions reveal new and different views and thoughts about something that touches me deeply.
Name an artist that you would like to be compared to.
A very thankless question. I admire the creative poetics of Elsa Schiaparelli, Philip Treacy, Gareth Pugh, Henry Moore, Zaha Hadid, ...
What do you do in self-isolation?
I am now slowly concluding 21 covers for the postponed premiere of the opera Marpurgi, SNG Maribor
Polona Poklukar (b. 1975, Ljubljana) graduated in Fine Art from Maribor Faculty of Education (2004) and in Illustration and Graphic Art from Prague Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design (2001). Her fields of creative work include product design, scenography, illustration, and spatial installation. She has presented her works at various exhibitions and festivals at home and abroad. She is the co-founder of the Maribor Salon of Applied Arts, an independent centre of urban cultures exhibiting and selling works created by local artists. She designs jewellery, hats, lamps etc. under the label Polona Poklukar. In 2014, she was awarded in the category of Fashion and Product Design at the Ljubljana Month of Design festival. She lives and works in Maribor.
