Maribor Photobook Award 2025 / award ceremony and opening

On Tuesday, 14 October 14, at 17.00 the awards ceremony and opening of this year's Maribor Photobook Award 2025 exhibition will take place in the great hall of the Maribor Art Gallery. Organised by the Maribor-based publishing house The Angry Bat in DEZ – Društvo za evropsko zavest, the award and exhibition aim to address important social issues through contemporary photography.

The afternoon will begin with the announcement of the winners in three categories: the Grand Prix, the Best ''Protest'' Photobook, and the prize for the Best photography book published in Southeast Europe.

Visitors will also meet the members of this year's international jury: artist Tanja Lažetić (SI), curator and publisher Birgit Sattlecker (AT) from the Fotohof gallery and publishing house in Salzburg, and Aneta Kowalczyk and Grzegorz Kosmala (PL/AT), founders of the Blow Up Press publishing house. After the opening, the jury members will present their artistic and publishing practices through short presentations and discussions. The discussions will be moderated by Matej Sitar, photographer, founder of The Angry Bat publishing house, and head of the Maribor Photobook Award project.

Alongside photobooks that are part of this year’s competition, a selection of photobooks by Palestinian and other authors, titled Focus: Palestine, as well as Red Box, a selection of photo and artist’s books by the artist and jury member Tanja Lažetić.
