An introduction of the Slovenian pavilion at the 57. Venice Binnale / The news is ours!

Kindly invited to the introduction of the project “The news is ours!”. It was created for the Slovenian pavilion at the 57. Venice Biennale by Nika Autor, Andreja Hribernik, Ciril Oberstar and Andrej Šprah. Through the presentation, we will take a look at a 38 minute long experimental film “Obzornik 63” (“Newsreel 63”) and listen to the artist about the collection of papers “Novicam se ne odpovemo!” (“The news is ours!”). “Obzornik 63” (“Newsreel 63”) is a reflection of social criticism, that is own to the form of anti-newsreel and focuses on the concept of trains, travelling and searching for happiness elsewhere. The film follows the direction of newsreel activities and tries to understand and put into perspective a certain image – a fraction of a shot from a once known railway from Beograd to Ljubljana, where refugees travel in the undercarriages of trains and not in wagons as they used to. “Obzornik 63” (“Newsreel 63”) visually explores the rails and their historical, social and political context. It draws a border between a classical informative and a socially engaged anti-newsreel and between the essayistic experimental film. The projection of the movie will be followed by the introduction of the collection of papers “Novicam se ne odpovemo!” (“The news is ours!”). The collection combines scientific texts as well as literary and visual elements, focusing on the analysis of state on the area of the actual newsreel activity and its key focus points. It simultaneously opens up possibilities of reflection on specific historical emphasis with which the actual initiatives come into context and from which they draw their creative charge.
