Interview / Alen Ožbolt
UGM | Maribor Art Gallery, Strossmayerjeva 6, Maribor
Thursday, 25 May 2017, 18:00
guided by: Breda Kolar Sluga, Maribor Art Gallery director

During the exhibition VIS-À-VIS we have also prepaired an interview with the artist Alen Ožbolt, exhibiting in UGM
from 21 April – 20 August 2017.

Alen Ožbolt (1966) is a Slovenian artist who freely and unconcernedly combines all kinds of artistic genres, techniques, and approaches. Alen Ožbolt since 2006 works as a professor of sculpture at the ALUO in Ljubljana.

In the work Letters, Words, and Sentences (2001-2003) the artist dismantles a cut-up book into separate sentences in order to insert each sentence into a bottle. The book contains Ožbolt's texts from 1997 (artist's statements, texts, and visual texts published within the group VSSD / Do You Painter Know Your Dues). The text, initially intended for reading instead of communicating, mainly focuses on the question of how letters/words/sentences establish their own place of existence in relation to space and the viewer.

The exhibition VIS-À-VIS establishes a relationship between artworks from the Maribor Art Gallery collection and the international contemporary art collection e49 Nord 6 Est – Frac Lorrainfrom Metz in France.

YOU ARE KINDLY INVITED!
