We invite you to a guided tour of the Maribor Photobook Award exhibition with editor of The Angry Bat and photographer Matej Sitar, which will take place on Friday, 10 November at 17:00 at Strossmayerjeva ulica 6.
The Maribor Photobook Award* 2023 is a biennial award and exhibition of photobooks organised by Maribor-based publisher The Angry Bat and DEZ - Association for European Consciousness, with the aim to thematise important social issues through current photographic production.
This year, the jury composed of Tanja Lažetić (artist, chair of the jury), Barbara Čeferin (owner and manager of Fotografija Gallery), Miha Colner (curator at Božidar Jakac Gallery, Kostanjevica na Krki, critic and writer in the field of contemporary art) and Michael Kollmann (chief curator of photobooks at OstLicht. Photo Galleries in Vienna) chose from 150 photobooks.
This year's winner of the main prize is Patricia Morosan. Her photobook (I) Remember Europe impressed the jury with its "very well thought-out design and execution of a photobook in connection with a very topical subject". The second prize went to photographer Gian Marco Sanna for his book Paradise. New this year, the prize for the best photobook published in South-Eastern Europe went to Greek photographer Persephone Michou for If I Forget You, I Will Love You Again.
