Guided tour of the exhibition Marko Pogačnik / Survey Exhibition 1962-2012: Art Descending Upon the Earth
UGM | Maribor Art Gallery, Strossmayerjeva 6
Saturday, 8 June 2013 at 11:00
guided by: Marjan Drev, academic sculptor, M.A.

The theme of Art Descending upon the Earth especially emphasises the artist's work in the field of integral ecology. Marko Pogačnik has been developing different approaches to cooperate with the Earth's consciousness and nature's manifold worlds, whether in the form of Earth acupuncture (lithopuncture) or of geomantic interpretations of individual places and landscapes. Another exhibition theme opens the question of how can art contribute to the transformation of the human civilisation on Earth, which is becoming increasingly destructive. Marjan Drev will present scientific points of departure for interpretation of selected works by Marko Pogačnik, for instance he will compare different forms of cosmograms with mathematical theory of knots and Moebius strips.

Academic sculptor Marjan Drev (1955, Celje) graduated at the Academy of fine arts in Ljubljana (1976-1980), where he obtained master degree in art theory (2006). He works in the field of sculpture, design and art theory. He is the author of several public statues, fountains and memorials, he furnished several sacral ambients with his sculptural works. Since 1991 he has been intensively developping sculptural-art theoretical concepts to form new paradigms in art. He lives and works in Maribor.
