UGM | Maribor Art Gallery, Strossmayerjeva ul. 6
Saturday, 11 May 2013 at 11:00
guided by: Igor Španjol, exhibition curator

Exhibition curator Igor Španjol will present 50 years of Marko Pogačnik's oeuvre. The exhibition's initial concept presents different ways discovered by Marko Pogačnik in the past 50 years, how to incorporate the artistic potentials into various life processes. It all started with his collaboration with the OHO movement and art group (1965-71), followed by the foundation of the farming and artistic community Šempas Family. At the present, this orientation is reflected in collaborations with the VITAAArt Group and with LifeNet groups around the world in setting up Geopuncture Circles. Also documented are Pogačnik's interactions with political processes, such as his resistance against the Vietnam War (1966) and his contribution to Slovenia's independence in the form of the state coat-of-arms.

Igor Španjol (1972, Senj) works as a curator at the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana. He studied sociology of culture and art history at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana. From 1995 to 1999 he has been collaborating on different media art projects at the Soros Center for Contemporary Arts Ljubljana (Internet Portfolio – artists profiles on the web, Videospotting – video programme, Videodokument – documentation, archival and research project on video art in Slovenia). He has lectured on media art in Ljubljana, Zagreb, Skopje, Gorizia, Paris and Kyiv. He has regularly been publishing articles, essays and texts on contemporary art in magazines (Texte zur Kunst, M'Ars, Zivot umjetosti,…) and annual catalogues of the Skuc Gallery.
