Although there have never been so many collectors of contemporary art as now, the life of private collections in Slovenia remains the same as always: private. As a result private collections as inaccessible archives of creativity, intended for their owners’ personal pleasure and hidden from the external world, have become obsessive objects of desire of the public and have gained on sex appeal. Is the private life of art works really so much more interesting? Where is the borderline between the “mine" and the “ours” in art? These are the questions asked in the first Slovene public disclosure of the intimate relationship between a private collector and his/her art. The VJP collection has been compiled over the last 20 years and includes the global names of visual art and design from the 1970s to present. It contains works by over 150 authors from Europe, USA, South America and Asia. The collection is very private and highly unusual, yet without the tendency to be eccentric and exaggerated. With its design and artworks it offers a possible scenography for a 21st century monastic order: meditative, intelligent, strict and slightly erotic.
