First guided tour of the exhibition It’s Okay To Cry
UGM, Strossmayerjeva 6
Saturday, 18 November 2023, 11:00
Led by: Lovro Japundžić (Organ Vida), curator of the exhibition

We invite you to a first guided tour of group exhibition It’s Okay To Cry, which will take place on Saturday, 18 November 2023, at 11:00 at UGM, Strossmayerjeva 6.

The exhibition It's Okay To Cry* focuses on the social dimensions of emotions and presents the artistic works of eleven artists who tackle different manifestations of feeling in contemporary society and affirm new affective perspectives in fields of both photography and contemporary art.

One of the 11 participating artists, Sonja Vulpes, will be present at the guided tour. In her series of graphics Limbo, she addresses the psycho-physical experience of being trapped in a state of total helplessness. In a series of intimate self-portraits, the artist depicts her own emotional states of despair, anger, sadness and fear in a naturalistic manner.

As the title suggests, the curators of It’s Okay To Cry want to identify, address and confront the sensitive or even painful feelings that we all experience, and use artistic approaches to explore their subversive potential. At the same time, they want to create a space that not only critically addresses the ever-present feeling of hopelessness, but also becomes a space for imagining and creating hopeful affective alternatives.
Organ Vida is a biannual international photography festival (Zagreb) that brings together international contemporary artists of a younger generation whose practice strives to develop the photographic medium and critically address global socio-political issues.

*The title is taken from the song It's Okay to Cry by SOPHIE.

Guided tour is free upon payment of entrance fee.
