guided by: Andreja Borin, senior UGM curator

Kindly invited to join our conversation with well known slovenian female artists Petra Kapš, Simona Šuc and Zora Plešnar.

»Do women need to get naked in order to get into the Metropolitan Museum of art?« Was the question on a poster of anonimous artists from New York in 1989, called Guerila Girls. The legendary poster represented a nude female body with a gorilla mask over her face.

The international contemporary art collection of 49 Nord 6 Est - Frac Lorraine (Metz, France) dedicates special attention towards collecting work from female artists. How about Maribor Art Gallery? How are women represented as artists in retorspective or group exhibitions? How has the perception of female artists changed since the 70' up untill the present? What are modern day female artists challenges and obstacles? What can the three artists from different generations and artistic styles tell us about these topics?

The interview is a part of the program along the VIS-À-VIS exhibition, which is putting in contrast selected art pieces from the Maribor art Gallery collection and selected work from the 49 Nord 6 Est - Frac Lorraine collection from France. All three artists are included into the exhibition.
