The opus of Hannes Gruber stems from the principles of European modernism. At the beginning of his artistic career his way of thinking and attitude to the motive was close to visual expressionism, later on he changed to the abstraction and devoted himself to the colour as a medium of a form. Gruber is a painter of light. He developed »the theory of encircled colour« and the idea of »macchie«, »stains« - rounded, oval, elongated formations against a colourful and light background – by which he plays with different layers of colours and the complexity of the space. The catalogue comprises three essays about his style characteristics as well as reproductions in colour of his paintings.
