Maribor Art Gallery is the only Slovenian institution with an independent collection of Slovenian video art. Since 1999 the Gallery has collected, protected, stored, researched and exhibited works by Slovenian videasts since the beginnings of video art in Slovenia from the 1960s to present time. The resulting collection has been designed in order to establish a reference centre for Slovenian video art and to offer a possibility of permanent presentation of this type of visual art in Slovenia and its promotion in Slovenia and abroad.

The UGM Video collection today holds works of major Slovenian videasts and artists who create by means of the medium of moving pictures or who incorporate video in their works as an important segment of their artistic creation. The collection which strives to meet both criteria of collection policy at the same time – the historical review and the medium within the wider context of contemporary visual art −, compiles the works of pioneers of Slovenian video art from the 1960s and 70s, the most important artists of the 1980s and 90s, the period when this medium established itself as an independent and equal medium of artistic creativiry, as well as contemporary production of recent 10 years when the medium passed the tests of numerous new uses and adjustments and served as one of the platforms within the complex life of contemporary art works. ExhibitionTo Be Continued … at MMSU presents 16 authors and their works that have been recognised as the key works for development of video art in Slovenia and for expanded use of the medium within multimedia installations, net art and interactive art.
