UGM | Maribor Art Gallery, Strossmayerjeva 6
Opening: Thursday, 17 December 2009 at 19:00

The artistic duo son:DA (Metka Golec & Miha Horvat; Maribor), have been working together since 2000 and are two of the most interesting and creative Slovene artists of the younger generation. Their artistic field is defined by various techniques and media: from computer drawing and audio-visual performance, interactive sound constellation and site-specific installations all the way to multimedia situations. In their work they distinctively problematise well-established themes – they research the relationship between new technology and the contemporary man and the complicated relations between objects, creative process and the functioning of the modern society. son:DA realizes its artistic attitude exclusively as a tandem, but an even more radical deviation represents the network of other artists which they include and here the authorships become intertwined and supplemental. This “group” work, joint-use of numerous media and expression techniques and distinct themes are the reason why son:DA is getting more and more recognition on the international artistic scene.

In this exhibition at the Art Gallery Maribor son:DA represents, after a long period of time, their work in their most recognizable media – computer drawing or “mouse drawing”, as the authors like to call it. In their large-dimensions art work (mostly digital prints on canvas) the artists expose lonely electric appliances and everyday banal views of empty interiors full of sockets and cables simulating the alienated communications with the outside world.
