UGM Šop is an exhibition space in the museum bookstore for the presentation of the younger generation of authors of the north-eastern Slovenia. On this occasion at UGM Šop, we are presenting the painter Slađana Matić Trstenjak with a selection of paintings from her recent period.

In her work, Sladjana Matić Trstenjak draws from landscape motifs and natural phenomena, which she gradually abstracts and creates colourful compositions in soft forms. The painting surface consists of several layers of coloured surfaces that overlap each other in seemingly rapidly painted layers. In the collage technique, the artist adds scaly structures that flow like a waterfall over the top edge and fall over the bottom edge of the painting in the middle of the painting surface. Shades of pink, sky-blue and light yellow colour are further accentuated through the contrast to the rough criss-cross surfaces painted in black. Using a variety of techniques, materials, shapes and colours, a playful effect is achieved, which at times feels as if the picture is sticking its tongue out at us.

Slađana Matić Trstenjak (b. 1985, Doboj, Bosnia and Herzegovina) received her master's degree in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Široki Brijeg of the University of Mostar in 2010, under the mentorship of prof. Antun Boris Švaljek. She has participated in numerous exhibitions in Slovenia and neighbouring countries, most recently exhibiting independently at the Lendava Synagogue, the Vladimir Filakovac Gallery in Zagreb, the La Roggia Gallery in Pordenon, the Blaues Atelier Gallery in Graz, and in over ninety group exhibitions. As a self-employed artist, she lives and works in Maribor.
