Polona Petek / Paintings, 2015 2021
UGM Šop
, Strossmayerjeva 6
22 April – 20 June 2021

At the exhibition in UGM Šop, we present the painter Polona Petek and her small-format paintings from the last five years.

When painting in small formats, Polona Petek follows similar impulses as in other creations. On the one hand, she is inspired by nature and its abundance, on the other by the human figure in a natural or urban environment. Throughout, however, the motifs are just excuses for the painter's unstoppable desire to portray. The wilderness along the Drava River, a plowed field, an overgrown forest, a home-made rose garden, random walkers in a Parisian park are random motifs that glow on the canvases of Polona Petek, radiating a rich inner life. The painter is characterized by bold color combinations and restless brush movements that conjure up a variety of structures, textures and different surfaces from water to concrete. Despite the fact that the painter retains the compositional strength and object recognizability, the painting testifies to the artist's vital and deep sense of motif. Polona Petek's painting overflows with color and design abundance, and the rich inner life of her paintings also inspires viewers.

Polona Petek studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana and graduated there in 1994. She also completed a master's degree at the same institution under prof. Metka Kraševec. She regularly presents herself in solo and group exhibitions in Slovenia and abroad. She lives and works in Zlatoličje near Maribor.
