Mihael Rudl has been dedicating his time to images on paper for a long time now. Strictly bound to his personal art form, through different colour gestures - the most direct sensory agents - he creates his own living spaces. Through exploring the media, differently processed pieces of paper, he builds the art compositions with apparent spontaneity. Some images are fleeting, others part of a completing process. A relaxed intertwining of continuous winding strokes, or layering of different colourful masses on one another are directing the viewer into the author's intimate world. On various papers, he operates with wide colour strokes. In a spontaneous yet precise gesture with a turn of the brush, unplanned colour encounters occur - in some places the colour thickens and other parts are diluted to whiteness.

Rudl’s images are abstract. We seem to find ourselves amid some remote (visual) landscapes, placed onto a horizontal or vertical format. He uses differently processed papers to create organic confluence of colours and shapes, on rare occasions he uses canvas. Nadja Gnamuš recognizes elements of calligraphy in Rudl’s paintings, which takes a balanced line of a liberated mind to protrude. In a similar way Mihael Rudl converts his inner rhythm - through maximum reduction of strokes - into matter that radiates and takes effect without the images being identifiable with any certainty.

Mihael Rudl (1972) was born in Maribor. After graduating from School of Design and Photography in 1991 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana with Professor Gustav Gnamuš. After several years of working at the Academy and staying in Škofja Loka he returned to Maribor. He takes part in collective exhibitions but prefers to exhibit by himself. As part of the UGM Exhibition Programme, his work was last seen at a collective display titled Made in Maribor in 2016.

KINDLY INVITED!
