Multimedia project LIFE GOES ON, LIFE GOES OFF enters into the living quarters of a contemporary individual. It reflects upon popular culture, advertising vernacular and technological progress. Živa Drvarič and Gašper Kunšič shift between the physical, the interior and the virtual worlds and highlight paradoxes of contemporary life.
Various network connections generating contemporary society are at the forefront of their investigation. Networks are progressively being woven in the virtual realm, where what is real may be all but an illusion. All this reverberates in how we form personal identities, interpersonal relationships, as well as our living space. We enter the virtual realm seamlessly, perhaps even inadvertently; the internet as our indispensable (or is it simply inescapable?) source of information fabricating our everyday. Since its outset, the internet has been utilised as a tool of emancipating a second self. Regardless of which self we choose - life goes on. The contrast between the real and the virtual is the central theme of the exhibition; designed as an ontological space in which visitors explore the various factors that shape our lives.
Živa Drvarič and Gašper Kunšič have graduated from the Academy of Fine Art and Design (Akademija za likovno umetnost in oblikovanje v Ljubljani) in Ljubljana, where they studied painting under mentor Žiga Kariž. They are currently enrolled at the University of Applied Arts (Universität für Angewandte Kunst Wien) in Vienna, where they study transmedia art. They live and work in Vienna.
