Judgement Tower (Sodni stolp) & and Rotovž Exhibition Salon, Trg Leona Štuklja 2
Opening: Tuesday, 2 August 2011 at 19:00

On the initiative of Maribor Art Gallery the art project Dialogue is being realized for the third time. This time a creative dialogue will be reestablished between two artists, Ksenija Čerče and Anica Vučetić, between two curators, Breda Kolar Sluga and Alexandra Estelo Bjelica Mladenović, and between two institutions, Maribor Art Gallery and Cultural Centre of Belgrade. The first realization of the project took place in Belgrade and will now be resumed in new spatial installations at two city sites in Maribor. Rotovž Exhibition Salon will present Anica Vučetić’s ambient installation Flowing In and Judgment Tower Ksenija Čerče’s sound video environment rec # 21. Both artists use dynamic pulsation frequencies in different ways in order to present the role of sound and image/light in the contemporary media. Compound, contemplative and impulsive installations are linked together by aspiration to guide the viewer into a dark unconscious space of dialogue with himself.

In the new sound video environment Ksenija Čerče is engaged with the phenomenon of sonoric experience which is relatively unexplored in our region, but increasingly up-to date in the contemporary art. The work derives from a specific area - the Judgment Tower, whose acoustics is becoming an instrument forming diverse sounds.

In her artwork Flowing In Anica Vučetić responded to the work of Ksenija Čerče. She is focusing primarily on the issue of individualization as well as relationship between personal outer and inner space. Her video installation Disappearing presents with its symbol of source or spiral an exciting process of disappearing into oneself.

Ksenija Čerče gained her BA (1999) and MA (2002) in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. Between 1988 and 1996 she completed her studies of Textile and Fashion Design at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, University of Ljubljana. In 2003 she received the Fulbright Scholarship for study in USA, where she attained her masters in video and sound art (under Liz Phillips) at Purchase College State University of New York. The artist sets up site-specific multi-layered media projects dependent on technology. At the moment she is creative in the field of sound and video art as well as painting.

Anica Vučetić (1962) acquired her BA (1986) and MA (1989) in painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade. She is a member of the ULUS (Unit of Expanded Media). Since 1986 she is a free lance artist. She was a guest artist of the Museum Ludwig Forum for International Art in Aachen (1999) and Ludwig Foundation of Cuba, Havana (2002). The artist had more than twenty solo exhibitions and participated in about eighty joint exhibitions. Her work involves objects as well as mobile, ambient and video installations. For her video installation Cut in the Nanedža Petrović Art Gallery in Čačak, Serbia she received the “Politikina” Award for the best exhibition of the year 2009.
