In the “masterclass” or Zoom lecture event, which concludes our programme of the international project Wom@arts, Dražić will speak about her creative practice and answer questions.

Rafaela Dražić uses graphic design as a tool for creating and communicating the content of cultural institutions and non-governmental organizations, while also working on her own projects. She received her PhD from the University of Fine Arts in Warsaw (Akademia Sztuk Pięknych w Warszawie), where she also taught (2009–2012) and graduated from the Department of Visual Communication Design at the University of Split (2007–2009). Her projects were, among others, part of exhibitions at: Jan van Eyck Academy, The Netherlands; KW, Berlin; Visual Introspection Centre, Bucharest; Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin; Foxal Gallery, Warsaw; In Between Gallery, London. Rafaela Dražič is also the author of the visual identity of the Triennial of Art and Environment EKO 8, organized by UGM in the summer of 2021 in the former MTT factory. The visual identity of the EKO 8 triennial builds on archival material and modern images, on retro aesthetics and the current form of communication.

The conversation with Rafaela Dražić will be moderated by the graphic designer Matej Koren, lecturer of Visual Communications at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Maribor and art director at Matej Koren Studio.

Short&Quick Q&A with Rafaela Dražić:

How do you start a new project?
With a thorough analysis.

What is most important to you about a client?
That I too am interested in what they want to communicate visually. I have never accepted a project that is not close to me in terms of sensibility and in which I do not believe.

Where do you find inspiration for your work?
Where the theme takes me.

What would be your dream project or who would be your dream client?
As a design student, I dreamed of working exclusively in the field of culture. And from today’s position, I can say that I am living my dream. What I miss is time for my own projects.

How does your workday look like?
About the same as Metallica's album cover "Ride the Lightning".

What keeps you up at night?
My daughter.

The artist/movie/book that has lately made an impression on you?
Jacques Tati’s “Playtime” is a film that never ceases to inspire me. Lately, Jens Bjørneboe’s book “The Sharks”.

The event will be held in English. Join us on Zoom!
