Selling exhibition / designers Polona Poklukar and Mira Strnad
UGM, Strossmayerjeva 6, Maribor
10 May - 17 June  2018
opening: Thursday, 10 May 2018, 18:00

Polona Poklukar and Mira Strnad have in recent years been very active and present Maribor fashion and fashion accessories designers. Both with their own labels, Mira also with her own store and Polona by co-founding and co-creating within the Salon of Applied Arts, are among a few, who offer a choice of unique and carefully selected items for the Maribor shopper. UGM | Maribor Art Gallery have invited Polona and Mira to create an entirely new selection of clothing and accessories, that draw inspiration from the work by Maribor sculptor Vlasta Zorko, who is currently being honoured with her own retrospective show at the gallery. The designers have approached the artist’s oeuvre each with her own tool – with hats and with shirts. Polona Poklukar has chosen two motifs: female forms, reminding one of a pair of pears, and a child’s hairdo, transformed into a wig-helmet-like hat. Mira in her shirts captured the zeitgeist of a time, when Vlasta Zorko was first entering the art scene in Maribor in the middle of the 20th century. The items are available for purchase at the UGM shop until 17 June 2018.
The selling exhibition by Polona Poklukar and Mira Strnad is the second in a series of selling exhibitions in the UGM shop, which began earlier this year with a presentation of REBUS – a photozine by Maribor creators Matjaž Wenzel and Rene Maurin. The exhibition opening – 10 May 2018 at 18:00 – will be accompanied by a conversation with the designers with Jure Kirbiš, curator at the UGM.
