Photographic Workshop / Cynotype
UGM Studio, Trg Leona Štuklja 2
Wednesday, 30 May 2018, 16:00 – 18:00
led by: Andrej Lamut, Master of Visual Communications Design

The workshop, part of project Parallel – European Photo base platform will be led by Andrej Lamut, winner of the international contest First shot/Prvo okidanje 2013 and ESSL Art Award 2015 nominee. His work was presented at four independent and numerous collective exhibitions in Slovenia and abroad.

Through trying out the technique of cyanotype the participants will learn to know photography as a medium of writing by light. Cyanotype is an alternative photographic technique named after the distinctive blue tone of the print it produces. A photogram is handmade in a plain and simple to perform procedure. First we learn to handle the chemicals safely and get acquainted with the manufacturing process. Afterwards everyone creates their own cyanotype. No camera or prior knowledge is needed and the results are immediately visible. The attendees will apply photosensitive emulsion to the surface and place various objects upon it, creating their chosen composition and thereby producing a photogram. Basic material that we work with is paper, however the attendees are welcome to bring their own light coloured, unprinted t-shirts or canvas sacks to create their images on. The participants are encouraged to bring objects they will use to create photograms, those with some prior knowledge are welcome to bring negative images printed on foil.

Andrej Lamut (1991) is an emerging Slovenian photographer working with analogue and digital techniques to provoke certain feelings or moods through his images. He thinks of photographs as physical objects, that are more than just carriers of meaning, but rather pieces that should be seen, felt and experienced. To him, the process of creation is equally as important as the final piece itself. He has graduated with honors from the Academy of Fine arts and Design at University of Ljubljana and has received several awards for his work, including an award for the best designed bibliographic/monographic publication at the Slovene Book Fair 2017 for his photobook Nokturno.
