From Olympe to Olympus! / Reading Olympe de Gouges in Time of Solitude on Zoom
11:00, Zoom
led by: Breda Kolar Sluga, Art Gallery Maribor
participants: Eva D. Bahovec, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, Ana Pandur Predin, Dance and Cultural Association Flamenko, Darja Rakovič, Kindergarten Zagorje ob Savi, Tatjana Rozman, I. Gymnasium in Celje

During the French Revolution, Olympe de Gouges drafted the Declaration of the Rights of Woman and Citizen and asked a very topical question in the introduction: "Who gave you sovereign power to suppress my gender?" The question still resonates today. The situation of women is deteriorating, instead of improving, “professions for women” are underpaid and artists still have to fight to avoid being so neglected. That is why we invite you to read the Declaration together on March 8! From Olympus to Olympus! There is a booklet on our website, read it, share it here! Choose your sentence to read at Monday’s meeting. Access here.

To make it more accessible to everyone, we are enclosing the Olympe de Gouges pdf publication Women's Rights. The publication includes the Declaration of the Rights of Woman and Citizen and the accompanying word of the editor Eva D. Bahovec "Who gave you sovereign power to suppress my gender?". The publication Women's Rights was published by the Society for Cultural Research in cooperation with Delta magazine and the City of Women Festival. We thank the association for the possibility of free distribution.

On the occasion of International Women's Day, we will focus on the works of artists at the exhibition 100+ Highlights from the UGM Collection. For women, throughout history, choosing the profession of an artist has often been much more difficult and full of obstacles compared to male artists. Nevertheless, brave, talented and independent women in Slovenia have decided to follow this path throughout history and proved that their works of art are as high quality as the works of their male peers. We will see the works and stories of famous and lesser-known artists, whose works we keep in our collection.
