On the first guided tour of the cycle route Monuments dedicated to famous personalities in Maribor we will visit all important monuments in the city centre. Most of the monuments dedicated to famous personalities were created in the post-war period, starting with the Monument to Josip Jurčič and following by the monuments dedicated to national heroes. A new period in Maribor’s monument sculptures started with the Monument to general Maister, when the names of soldiers and politicians started to decline in favour of personalities from the more distant and semi recent Slovenian history, whose work and personalities raised the level of national consciousness and importantly contributed to the development of Slovenia.
